About the workThis brass jug, richly decorated with floral and vine patterns, was used at mealtimes to wash hands with fragrant rose water. The shape of the jug, with its bulbous body and narrow neck, resembles typical Persian ceramic bottles. Arts and crafts flourished in Persia from the end of the sixteenth century until the eighteenth century. Europeans bought similar art objects as travel souvenirs during visits to Isfahan, Persia’s capital during this period, or to the ruins of ancient Persepolis.
