About the workFamous for his colossal statues, the sculptor Tiziano Aspetti turned to figurines in his late work. He rendered the biblical heroine Judith in an expressive manner: the slight rotation and elegant arrangement of the engaged leg and the free leg give the figure a multiperspectival appearance, which is further emphasised by the round base. The Old Testament narrative in which Judith cuts off the head of the Babylonian general Holofernes to liberate her people is alluded to by the general’s head, on which Judith’s leg rests as if on a trophy.
