About the workThe contribution of women to the history of glass art has not been well documented. One of the few exceptions is the Belgian-French painter and sculptor Yvonne Serruys, who studied in Brussels in the 1890s and exhibited in Paris for the first time in 1897. She moved into her own studio there in 1904. Between 1905 and 1910, she created designs for the experimental studio of the Belgian glass industrialist Georges Despret. She responded to Despret’s experiments using different glass compositions and techniques with a wide range of design ideas. This bowl is part of a small series.
