About the workThis ashtray by Marianne Brandt has long been a classic. After studying art, the Chemnitz native went to the Bauhaus in Weimar in 1923 in order to begin her education in the metal workshop. She was so successful in this male-dominated field that she was put in charge of the workshop in 1928. Industrially manufactured, geometric basic forms were typical characteristics of her designs. The ashtray consists of a cylindrical base, the top of which protrudes through the lid as a semi-sphere. The convex lid closes perfectly around this cone, thus isolating odours.
