About the workAfter the first electric kettle was presented at the World’s Fair in Chicago in 1893, devices like these gradually replaced the whistling kettles typically found in Germany. They were designed in various shapes and materials. Founded in Berlin in 1916, the Electro-Plated-Waren-Fabrik specialised in silver-plated household goods such as this electric kettle with a reduced and clear style typical of Art Deco. The Jewish company was aryanized by the National Socialists in 1938 and its owner, Siegmar Lewy, was murdered in the Theresienstadt concentration camp in 1942.
