About the workMarcel Breuer, alongside his fellow architect and designer Mart Stam, is considered the inventor of modern tubular steel furniture. One of his most famous creations is the B3 chair, which was marketed in the 1960s as the “Wassily” in reference to the Bauhaus artist Wassily Kandinsky. In 1921, Breuer began working for Walter Gropius’ architectural firm and additionally headed the furniture workshop at the Bauhaus in Dessau. In 1933, he left Germany because of his Jewish ancestry; he later emigrated to the USA, where he taught at the Harvard Graduate School of Design.
