About the workAfter the Second World War, writer Inge Scholl and graphic designer Otl Aicher joined forces with Swiss artist and architect Max Bill to found the Ulm School of Design as a continuation of the Bauhaus, which was closed by the National Socialists in 1933. In 1953, teaching began at the Ulm School of Design under the direction of Max Bill. One of the school’s first projects was this multifunctional stool, which the students made themselves at the start of their course. The item served as a carrying frame, shelf or even a seat.
