not on displayThis bronze figure depicts Paris, the Trojan prince. According to Greek mythology, Paris was called upon to decide which of three goddesses was the fairest. He awarded the golden apple to Aphrodite, who in return promised him the love of the beautiful Helen, although she was already married to King Menelaus. Helen’s abduction ultimately led to the outbreak of the Trojan War. In addition to creating official court art, Gabriel Grupello, court sculptor to Elector Johann Wilhelm, produced numerous small-scale bronze sculptures for the private occasions and residences of the Elector’s family.
