About the workThe sculpture depicts St Peter, one of Jesus' most important companions. According to the New Testament, Peter worked as a fisherman on the Sea of Galilee before Jesus called on him as to be one of the first Jewish disciples and made him one of his most important followers. The vividly designed figure with ist sweeping cloak was originally part of an altar and was created by Dominikus Hermengild Herberger, who worked as a court sculptor for the Prince-Bishopric of Constance from 1748.
