About the workIn 1970, this television set was a world first: instead of the usual box, the Japanese consumer electronics company JVC devised the first portable TV set in the shape of a sphere. Reminiscent of an astronaut’s helmet, its form is inspired by the enthusiasm for outer space during those years – in 1969, the first humans had landed on the moon. In this period, the so-called “Space Age” emerged and influenced many areas of design, ranging from fashion and entertainment media to furniture and even architecture.
