on displayThe Russian-Danish artist Maria Koshenkova explores the vulnerability of the human body. Many of her sculptures evoke internal organs such as the heart, liver, or intestines. This work takes the form of a heart, with thin glass threads laid onto its surface suggesting veins and blood vessels.
Glass plays a central role in Koshenkova’s work: its fragility can be understood as a metaphor for the vulnerability of the human body. At the same time, when heated, the material itself behaves almost like a living body. It contracts and expands – it seems to breathe.
