About the workFortunately, no one from this terrifying procession has noticed us, so we are able to take a close look at the witch and her nightmarish entourage. In the Renaissance, imagination, reason and prejudice were closely related. Magical creatures were widespread in art, while at the same time those suspected of being witches were publicly executed. It is unclear who conceived this image and whether it was realised by the copperplate engraver Marcantonio Raimondi, who worked in Rome, or by his workshop assistant Agostino dei Musi.
