About the workThe purpose of the spikes in the glass is unclear. Perhaps they served to froth up beer, although the main mystery is how they got into the glass. The answer is, from the outside. Some glass, a “prunt”, was melted onto the side of the cup. This softened the thin glass underneath. It was now possible to pierce it deeply with a rod. A second prunt covered the puncture. This is the oldest known prunted beaker in this rare style.
