About the workThe US artist Andy Warhol elevated popular appeal to an art form, exploring both the lighter and darker sides of our modern affluent society. He first met his German colleague Joseph Beuys in 1979, at the opening of Warhol’s exhibition at Galerie Hans Mayer in Düsseldorf. After another meeting in New York, the idea of a series of portraits of Beuys was born. They are based on a photograph and include screen prints and paintings. Although their format and colour vary, they repeat the same motif in the style of advertisements.
