on display, room 010.2 About the workDespite the rain, at least a few people have come to the market on Düsseldorf’s Burgplatz. The Düsseldorf-based landscape painter German Grobe was drawn to the contrast between the grey and brown tones and the colourful flowers. He chose a typical local motif: the castle tower and the church of Saint Lambertus continue to dominate the square today. The taller building directly on the Rhine was the popular wine bar “Düsselschlösschen”. The drinking establishment was damaged during the Second World War and was eventually demolished in the 1950s.
