About the workAs a durable material, stone has always played a special role for humans. Large, carved stone blocks – known as monoliths – can be found on every continent. Their original function and significance often remain unknown. They appear like mysterious symbols of eternity. Heinz Mack, co-founder of the ZERO artist group, takes up their ambiguity in his work. For him, the interplay of material and light is crucial: the latter is reflected in the polished granite surface and changes its appearance depending on the angle of incidence.
