About the work“There she blows!” shouts the sailor from the crow’s nest of the ship when he spots a whale coming to the surface to breathe. The title of the painting is a reference to the American writer Herman Melville, whose novel "Moby Dick" memorialised the human struggle with the force of nature. The painting style of K. O. Götz, who worked for many years in Düsseldorf, is pure action, and his pictures depict nothing figurative, even if in this case the title of the image suggests a story. In most of his works, the artist avoided such associations.
