About the workFor Carl Buchheister, an artist from Hannover, the creation of tension and simultaneous harmony in an image was central. In this painting, he endeavoured to depict a feeling of power. He described the red motif as a “rhythm of force”, which is made up of a rigid, primary component and a dynamic secondary one. It only unfolds its intense effect in combination with yellow. Buchheister is one of the most represented artists in Willi Kemp’s collection. The two were close friends. After the artist’s death, Kemp compiled his catalogue raisonné together with his widow.
