About the workIn Buddhist teachings, Manjushri is regarded as both a Buddha and a bodhisattva – an enlightened being who helps the faithful to overcome ignorance and attain wisdom. In his right hand he holds a sword that cuts through ignorance and is thus said to bring understanding. In his left hand is a lotus flower with the book of wisdom on it. Manjushri is considered the guardian of scholars and students; he imparts inspiration and knowledge when invoked.
