About the workBuddha is depicted in a meditative pose, the left hand in a gesture of leisure, the right touching the earth. This figure comes from the Chiang Mai region in the north of present-day Thailand and ist style is typical of the area and period: downcast eyes, defined lips and a prominent chin. What is striking about this sculpture is the fact that it is fragmented and that the bronze has been discoloured green by moisture. The damage suggests that this object was probably found during an excavation, but the site of ist discovery is unknown.
