About the workAndy Warhol made 200 copies of this silkscreen. The motif he used was a press photograph of Jacqueline Kennedy as the widowed First Lady at the funeral of her assassinated husband John F. Kennedy in 1963. The original was cropped to chest height and printed twice side by side on a pink support. In this image, Warhol experiments with the themes of pattern, original and copy; by using the screen printing technique, which can be reproduced any number of times, as well as duplicating the motif, he consciously challenges the concept of the artwork as an outstanding, unique creation.
