About the workMany parts make a whole. The oeuvre of Franz Erhard Walther, who studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy between 1962 and 1964, follows this theme. The artist understands the audience and the diversity of human actions as an integral element of his practice – as in this floor work. Walther developed it as part of his "Walking and Standing Pieces" in the 1970s. The focus is on the viewers: if they stand on one of the iron objects, they change the artwork, which is only completed through their movements, encounters and spontaneous behaviour.
