About the workThe Scottish artist Peter Doig, who was a professor of painting at the Düsseldorf Art Academy from 2005 to 2017, chose Port of Spain, the capital of Trinidad, as his adopted home in 2002. It was there that he photographed the motif of a weathered cemetery wall, which served as the starting point for the rest of his work process. In “Lapeyrouse Wall” he combined soft, finely shaded lines of drypoint with the flat and painterly elements of aquatint.
