About the workA tree loses its first leaves. The flat autumn landscape surrounding it is only hinted at by simple forms and is kept in a restrained colour scheme. The painter Bruno Goller was a committed member of the artists’ association Das Junge Rheinland (The Young Rhineland) and co-founder of the Rheinische Sezession (Rhenish Secession). As his art was considered degenerate under National Socialism, Goller withdrew until the end of the war. He taught at the local art academy from 1953 to 1964. His students included the later prominent artists Konrad Lueg, Blinky Palermo and Konrad Klapheck.
