About the workAt first glance, the shape of this jug, which was intended for wine, seems rather atypical. Its design may have been based on a goblet. Serving vessels with an elongated mouth had been common in the region of present-day northern Italy and Tyrol since Etruscan times. The wall of the vessel is adorned with narrow leaf friezes and a broad band of Gothic letters, which serve a purely decorative function.
