Permeability for Influences, 1968
Tinfoil, paper strips, felt-tip pen, cotton, typewriter
(H x W)91 × 14 cm
About the workThis work is meant to symbolise humans as perceptive and sensitive beings. Chris Reinecke perforated the roll of paper in a snaking line and wrote “Durchlässigkeit für Einflüsse” (Permeability to influences) by one of the holes. She used a typewriter to add other words; each of them stands alone and is surrounded by its own holes, through which the background of the sheet can be seen. The first group of words refers to the senses that bring humans into contact with the outside world. The second names signs of deficiencies, which alludes to their inner lives.
