on display, room 036 About the workTony Cragg’s oeuvre is all about transformation. Since 1979, he has influenced many artists as a teacher and, from 2009 to 2013, as the rector of the Düsseldorf Art Academy. A standard detergent bottle served as the starting point for this work. The British-German artist mirrored its shape in the outline of the wall mosaic behind it, which he assembled using found pieces of plastic in blue shades. By doubling the form and translating the bottle into its two-dimensional likeness, he communicates the idea of metamorphosis: even disposable items can be worthy of art.
