About the workTriangles and squares seem to extend beyond the edge of the picture. The composition reveals neither a centre nor symmetry, causing the black colour field to tilt to one side. The works of Swedish artist Olle Bærtling play with perception. He continued his painterly system of sharp-edged open forms, which he established in 1954, until the end of his career. He always contrasted black fields and lines with bright colours. For these paintings, he chose invented titles that made no reference to the real world.
