About the workAfter studying in Kyiv, Alexander Archipenko moved to Paris in 1908. He enrolled at the art school there and deepened his knowledge with regular visits to the Louvre. In 1912 he founded his own art school in Paris and later established another in Berlin. Archipenko created sculptures with strongly reduced, geometric forms, which he combined with harmonious, flowing lines. With a curved silhouette leading up the leg to the hip, a gentle bend of the knee and the delicate slope of the shoulder, the torso emphasises the elegance of the female body.
