About the workVerena Loewensberg began her artistic career after training as a textile designer. From 1936 onwards, she devoted herself to abstract art and became part of the Zurich School of Concrete Art, a loose association of artists who preferred strict geometric abstraction without any figurative or symbolic references. Loewensberg, however, adopted a more fluid approach than her male colleagues within the movement. Her work illustrates her preoccupation with squares and graduated rectangles as well as the interaction between light and darkness, line and colour.
