on display, room 032.1 About the workDynamic lines run diagonally across the canvas. The Munich painter and graphic artist Günter Fruhtrunk created his stripe paintings using mathematical methods. He was not primarily interested in visual sensations, but in translating basic human experiences into a geometric formal language. The Latin word "hiatus" can be translated as "gap" – the title alludes both to the depth of the painting as well as to a chasm that needs to be bridged. Fruhtrunk also became known for his blue and white bag design for the discounter chain Aldi Nord.
