Its design testifies to the spirit of optimism that gripped the First Czechoslovak Republic between 1918 and 1938. The designer Ludvika Smrčková studied art and mathematics in Prague from 1921 to 1927. At the International Exhibition of Decorative Arts in Paris in 1925, her cut-glass bowl won a prize. After this, she devoted herself intensively to designing glass. Smrčková worked for several glassworks and was a leading figure in Czech glass design as a whole until 1958.
