About the workThis “Scheuer” is presented in its simplest basic form: it is undecorated, the foot has been formed from the blown glass of the vessel’s body, and only the handle, which is typical of these glasses, has been fused on separately. The simple design indicates that it may have been produced in large quantities. Scheuer seem to have been popular for about two generations around 1500, but little is known about their regional distribution and use. This Scheuer was reportedly found in a cesspit in Mainz.
