About the workIf these glasses were not so well documented, it would be difficult to classify them today. At a time when European crafts were still characterised by rich ornamentation, the architect, artist and innovator of German design Peter Behrens turned to a clear style that would only become commonplace decades later. Unlike subsequent generations, Behrens did not completely renounce embellishment, but incorporated it into the design. The glasses belong to a dining room set that he designed for the Wertheim department store in Berlin.
