About the workThis original tin was conceived for the Ruppelwerk factory in Gotha by the artist and designer Marianne Brandt, who was head of the design department there from 1931. The only way to open the door in order to change the date of the calendar is to insert a coin into the money box. Marianne Brandt studied fine and decorative arts at the State Bauhaus in Weimar in 1923. In 1925, she completed her training in the metal workshop at the new Bauhaus in Dessau; one year later, she became the first woman to be appointed as its acting director. Many of her creations are still in production today.
