not on displayThis vase by the French glass artist Henri Bergé depicts an almost fully rendered pond scene featuring water lilies, tadpoles and fish. The freely shaped, three-dimensional glass appliqués give the object a distinctly sculptural quality. Originally active as an illustrator and botanical draughtsman, Bergé based his artistic concepts and decorative designs on close observations of nature. From 1895 to 1930, he worked for the Daum brothers’ glass manufactory in Nancy, one of the principal competitors of Émile Gallé’s glassworks.
