About the workMany of the names behind the glass art of the French Art Nouveau period from the 1880s to around 1904 are virtually unknown today. In his workshop in Paris, the glass engraver Eugène Michel was even capable of giving form to a particular mood in the air on his vase creations. His skill is evident in his plant portraits, in which the large leaves appear heavy yet allow the coloured background of the vessel to shine through at the same time.
