on display, room 037 About the workA translucent yellow oval accentuates a woman’s face and part of her upper body. Is this luminous form a warmth-giving sun or a stylised egg yolk? Rosemarie Trockel, who initially studied anthropology, religious studies and mathematics before attending the Cologne Academy of Fine and Applied Arts from 1974 to 1978, often addresses concepts of femininity in her work and examines the function of symbols. In 1983, when this work was created, she received her first solo exhibition in a gallery. From 1998 to 2016 she was a professor at the Düsseldorf Art Academy.
