About the workFor Ellsworth Kelly, colour was at the forefront of his art. Clearly separated from each other, the red and blue are given space to unfold on their respective canvases. For his colour field paintings, the New York artist broke away from the rectangular canvas and combined different formats to create strictly geometrically structured compositions. There is no discernible artistic gesture – the focus is solely on form and colour.
