At the Cabaret (Self with Ernst Buchholz), 1921
MediumLithograph, four-colours
Sheet dimensions64,6 x 53,3 cm
About the workAfter the First World War, the cabaret was a popular meeting place in German cities and an important part of the diverse cultural landscape. Conrad Felixmüller, on the right in the foreground with glasses, provides insight into the evening stage programme as well as into the the beginning of his friendship with Ernst Buchholz. Buchholz, still a 16-year-old in the picture here, would later become famous as a public prosecutor and generous patron of arts and culture. The four colours printed on top of each other in this lithograph differ within the edition, so that each copy is unique.
