About the workIn this larger-than-life scene, the Magi reverently pay homage to the newborn Jesus and bring him precious gifts. Seated on his mother’s lap, the infant stretches out his hand to bless the head of the eldest Magi. The author of this work is unknown, but the artistic style exhibits a creative sensitivity to shadow, the folds of fabric and colouring that is similar to the style of great Antwerp painters such as Peter Paul Rubens and Jacob Jordaens.
