About the workThe Berlin artist Lovis Corinth painted a number of still lifes from 1911 onwards. Flowers in full bloom were a particularly frequent subject. This still life is abundantly filled and conveys a sense of vitality. Red gladioli, a vine, apples, grapes, and possibly peaches and plums cover the surface of the picture. In terms of colour, however, Corinth held back, limiting himself almost exclusively to shades of red and green.
