About the workJohann Wilhelm Preyer delicately painted various materials and surfaces on canvas. The still life painter’s technique was admired by many artists in Düsseldorf and beyond. A unique feature of this picture is the reflection of Preyer’s studio in the lidded goblet. Unlike previous generations of artists, the reminder of ephemerality no longer played a role in his still lifes. Instead, he devoted himself entirely to the sensual qualities of the objects.
