About the workAre the rider and horse in a battle or in harmonious coexistence? Equestrian figures as symbols of human existence are at the heart of Marino Marini’s work. From 1936, the Italian sculptor dedicated himself to the relationship between animals and humans. From work to work, he increased the excitation of the horse. In latter versions, the man was completely seized by the animal’s rebellion. Marini simplified the forms to the point of distortion. "My equestrian statues express the fear triggered by the events of my era", said the artist, describing his preoccupation with the motif.
