About the workEngraved under the base of this vase is “COL. LUCIANO FERRO 1955”. “Col.” probably means “collezzione”, collection, and indicates that the signature was applied after the death of the glassmaker Luciano Ferro in 1972. The year “1955” is confusing, however, because vases in this style were not produced by A.VE.M. until around ten years later. Ferro worked directly with the designer Anzolo Fuga at the furnace from 1965 to 1968. The vase was probably blown by Luciano Ferro, but was later re-dated. The reasons for this remain unclear.
