About the workGlass is made from simple raw materials, and yet in early history it was considered a great luxury. As its vibrancy and brilliance matched that of precious stones, it was used in similar ways: as jewellery, for vessels and particularly as an inlay for furniture and sculpture. Today it is believed that glass was developed in Mesopotamia (roughly the area of present-day Iraq and Syria) in the third millennium BC. The objects exhibited here belong to a significantly larger number of finds from Egypt, which are excellently preserved due to the dry climate.
