About the workFrom about 1880 until around 1905, Oskar Rauter, the director of the Ehrenfeld glass factory in Cologne, ran his own “Department for Artistic Products”. In the 1880s, the division took inspiration from older glassware. The reproductions are distinguished by their quality craftsmanship and carefully chosen glass colour, with no additional colour or ornamentation. They display a flawlessness that the older specimens had lost over time. The original model probably dates back to the fourth century AD.
