About the workA hollow internal ring made by compressing the walls of the vessel is a typical feature of Iranian jugs and bottles that was apparently retained over several centuries. Its significance is not known today. Perhaps it was intended to strengthen the wall or to swirl a drink when it was poured. In any case, the constriction testifies to great glassmaking skill and is also a restrained design element.
