About the workThe vase is modelled on the form of a rosewater bottle from the Near or Middle East. Since antiquity, fragrant essences have been used there for cleansing and perfuming. The clean design, crafted of thick-walled, opaque glass, is also reminiscent of glazed ceramics from East Asia. The British technologist and designer Arthur J. Nash developed new types of glass for Tiffany, including this one. His innovations made a significant contribution to the company’s success in the early twentieth century.
