About the workThe “Battuti” series, the “hammered ones”, is one of Tobia Scarpa’s first designs for Venini. They are characterised by the matt, uneven surface of the glass, which is reminiscent of the traces of hammering on silverware. The matt finish looks like a skin on the flawless, translucent glass and emphasises the shape. Scarpa followed in the footsteps of his father Carlo and also became an architect and designer. He worked for Venini from around 1959 and collaborated with Ludovico Diaz de Santillana, who took over the artistic direction of the glassworks in 1960.
